Introduction
Welcome to the second chapter of my journey at METACENTER GLOBAL WEEK 2023! In this article, I’ll take you through my experiences, from an interview with Joshua Kurikeshu from Immersed (Visor) to fascinating encounters with a Early-2000 Hip Hop Artist and DJ, exploring groundbreaking medical technology, and offering a hands-on review of the Quest 3 headset by Meta. Step into the realm of XR for an in-depth look at the forefront of innovation and inspiration. The journey continues here!
Day 2 of METACENTER GLOBAL WEEK
The day started with beautiful Florida weather as I made my way to Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando, FL At the front desk, I had the pleasure of running into Fraser Bowie the Cheif Product Officer for NuEyes Technologies and Founder of The Bowie Group. During our initial conversation, he generously shared insights into his XR journey and his previous role at Verizon, where he played a pivotal role in driving business improvements. His visionary approach involved conducting independent research and implementing advanced technological methods, including Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), resulting in substantial growth for the company. His contributions not only improved overall company culture but also boosted profits by developing high ROI projects and leveraging technology to reduce incidental costs.
Later on, in the exhibition area, I ran into my friend Juan R, a Senior Digital Media Design Instructor and programmer who joined me at the 2023 Armed Forces Jam. It was great to reconnect with him at the event.
Upon entering the exhibition center, I was greeted by a wide array of technology booths. Notable among them were Meta, Google Cloud, 302 Interactive, and Immersed. The Immersed Booth immediately caught my attention, where they provided a demo of their XR software that revolutionized the way users interact with multiple screens in an XR environment. I witnessed a product demo using the Quest Pro Headsets by Meta and was truly impressed by the seamless transition between virtual reality spaces, each offering breathtaking scenery for collaboration, and mixed reality spaces where you could stay connected to the real world through the cameras and headset lens, allowing you to see all of your screens while staying aware of your surroundings. During my conversation with the Immersed team, I gained valuable insights into how people have been integrating their software into their daily routines for enhanced productivity. I also had the privilege of sitting down with Joshua Kurikeshu, the Head of Content for Immersed, for an insightful interview on XR technology and a discussion about the new Immersed: Visor Headset. The team explained their vision, emphasizing the importance of seamlessly integrating hardware and software to create an exceptional user experience, drawing inspiration from the wisdom of the late Steve Jobs. This philosophy drove their decision to develop the Visors headset, which aims to redefine the XR landscape for their software that allows users to have multiple screens in XR.
At another booth, the ArthurApp caught my attention as it serves as the spoken voice for patients who have difficulty communicating due to surgery and intubation. Carl Pheiffer, a SaaS & Mobile Application Product Expert and Principal Product Manager Director for the ArthurApp, discussed the revolutionary potential of their product, highlighting its practical application for those in need.
I also had the chance to meet with Ariane Fikki, a Senior Client Partner on the Government and Aerospace Team at UNITY, who introduced me to notable figures in the XR space, including Shawn Mims and DJ Epps, renowned for their work in music and users of Horizon Worlds by Meta.
Lastly, I visited the Meta Booth for a demo of the New Quest 3 headset. The Meta team showcased features of Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality, and I was particularly impressed by the enhanced pass-through mode, opening new possibilities for VR and XR experiences.
The Wrap-Up
As I wrap up my final day at METACENTER GLOBAL WEEK, I’m filled with a sense of awe and gratitude for the incredible experiences I’ve had during this event. From engaging with groundbreaking XR technologies to meeting remarkable individuals who are shaping the future of this space, it’s been an unforgettable journey. I’ve had the privilege of exploring the potential of the Meta Quest 3 headset, learning from tech visionaries like Fraser Bowie, discovering innovative applications like the ArthurApp in healthcare, and engaging in an enlightening conversation with the Immersed team. This week has been a testament to the ever-evolving world of XR, and the endless possibilities it holds. Thank you for joining me on this adventure.
